626307 news 1568746473 1569254695 <![CDATA[School of Economics Students Present Posters at Georgia Transportation Conference]]> Sarah Tinsley, a fourth-year student in economics and Xiaoyu Dong, a graduate student in economics, presented posters at the 7th Annual Research Expo organized by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) and the Georgia Transportation Institute (GTI) on September 13, 2019.

The presentations by Tinsley and Dong highlighted research being done in the School of Economics and the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts to benefit Georgia communities. They also were remarkable in that most Georgia Tech students who have participated in similar GDOT transportation research expos have been engineering students.

Tinsley and Dong are research assistants for Shatakshee Dhongde, an associate professor in the School of Economics who is working on two projects with GDOT.

Tinsley presented a poster entitled Economic Impact of Bicycling in Georgia. part of the first-ever report on the economic impact of bicycling on economic development in Georgia. Dong's poster was entitled Economic Impact Analysis of Georgia's Rural and Small Transit Systems. Dhongde and Laurie A. Garrow, a professor in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering, co-lead that project.
