The deadline for submissions to the\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nconference is\u0026nbsp;\u003Cstrong\u003EFriday, December 6, 2019\u003C\/strong\u003E.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nThe 2020 conference theme is \u0026ldquo;Forces of Change: Memories of Global Alterations,\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nAdaptations, and Upheavals\u0026rdquo;. The conference will address a wide variety of themes\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nwithin world history and public history, looking specifically at the histories of people\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nand ideas that have confronted adversity and pushed boundaries. We encourage papers\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nthat think broadly about how systems have been changed and challenged, both on the\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nlocal and global level.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nSubmissions may engage with a variety of related themes including: Empire; Trade and\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nTransport; Global Systems; Migration and Mobility; Class and Conflict; The Urban\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nSpace; Gender; Borders and Boundaries; Race; The Environment; Hegemony and\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nSociety; Theory and Practice, and many more.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nWe invite graduate students in history graduate programs and other associated\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\ndisciplines to present work on any of these topics and more. We welcome and encourage\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\npapers that deal with these issues in interdisciplinary ways, as well as those engaging\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nwith the digital humanities. We also encourage the submission of pre-organized panel\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nproposals. Faculty are invited to volunteer as chair\/commentators in their research\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nareas. Paper submissions will be due February 7, 2020 if you are accepted to present at\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nthe conference.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u003Cstrong\u003EPaper Prize!\u003C\/strong\u003E\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nThe 2020 conference will have a paper prize competition. The winner of the paper prize\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nwill be awarded a one-year membership to the World History Association and a\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\ncertificate will also be included with the prize. The winner will be announced Sunday\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nafternoon, March 22nd, after the last panel presentation. The Committee will judge\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\npapers according to the following criteria: world historical scope; originality of research;\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\ndepth of analysis; and prose style. Dr. Lal\u0026rsquo;s research\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nfocuses on the politics of national development in decolonization-era and postcolonial\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nAfrica. Her first book, African Socialism in Postcolonial Tanzania: Between the Village\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nand the World, received an Honorable Mention for the African Studies Association\u0026#39;s\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nBethwell Ogot Book Prize. Dr. Lal is currently working on a book entitled Human\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nResources about the training, labor, and circulation of educational and medical\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nprofessionals in and beyond southeastern Africa since independence. This project has\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nwon a Frederick Burkhardt Fellowship and an ACLS Fellowship, both from the\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nAmerican Council of Learned Societies.\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u003Cstrong\u003EFormat of Presentations:\u003C\/strong\u003E\u0026nbsp;Accepted presentations are typically divided into three or\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nfour-person panels.
