{"629137":{"#nid":"629137","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Team Advances to World Finals of Student Programming Contest","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EWith a recent regional victory, a student team from Georgia Tech has qualified to compete for the 2020 global championship in one of the world\u0026rsquo;s most highly regarded programming contests.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EGeorgia Tech 5 (GT 5), a team of three College of Computing students, earned first place in the International Collegiate Programming Contest\u0026rsquo;s (ICPC) 2019 southeast regional qualifier held online Nov. 9. The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) sponsored the event.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EICPC is an annual algorithmic programming competition for university students around the world.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EAs regional winners, the team \u0026ndash; computer science (CS) major \u003Cstrong\u003EAnimesh Fatehpuria\u003C\/strong\u003E and Ph.D. students \u003Cstrong\u003ELi Chen\u003C\/strong\u003E and \u003Cstrong\u003EYu Gao\u003C\/strong\u003E \u0026ndash; automatically advances to the 2020 ICPC World Finals set for June 2020 in Moscow, Russia.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EBefore heading to Russia, GT 5 is competing in the inaugural ICPC North America Championship, which is being \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/icpcnac2020.cc.gatech.edu\/\u0022\u003Ehosted in Atlanta by the College of Computing\u003C\/a\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/b.gatech.edu\/2phXo7p\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003E[RELATED: Top Student Programmers Heading to Atlanta for Shot at World Finals]\u003C\/a\u003E\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThey will join more than 50 top collegiate computing teams from the U.S. and Canada Feb. On 19-23 they will vie to be the first-ever ICPC North America Champions and compete to fill remaining slots in the upcoming World Finals. The event will be held at the Georgia World Congress Center.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EAlong with GT 5, two other Tech teams, GT 1 and GT 7, took top-10 spots in Division I of the southeast regional qualifier.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ETeam members for GT 1 are CS MS students \u003Cstrong\u003EYufan Huang\u003C\/strong\u003E and \u003Cstrong\u003ESomnath Sarkar\u003C\/strong\u003E, and CS undergraduate \u003Cstrong\u003EChris Jung\u003C\/strong\u003E. GT 7 team members include CS undergraduates \u003Cstrong\u003EAmaan Marfatia\u003C\/strong\u003E, \u003Cstrong\u003EShyamal Patel\u003C\/strong\u003E, and \u003Cstrong\u003EArvind Ramaswami\u003C\/strong\u003E.
