The team is comprised of \u003Cstrong\u003ESchool of History and Sociology Assistant Professor\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.iac.gatech.edu\/people\/faculty\/michney\u0022\u003ETodd Michney\u003C\/a\u003E\u003C\/strong\u003E, \u003Cstrong\u003ESchool of Literature, Media, and Communication Academic Professional \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/wcprogram.lmc.gatech.edu\/people\/person\/bradley-rittenhouse\u0022\u003EBrad Rittenhouse\u003C\/a\u003E\u003C\/strong\u003E, and \u003Cstrong\u003EGeorgia Tech Library Digital Collections Archivist \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/library.gatech.edu\/wendy-hagenmaier\u0022\u003EWendy Hagenmaier\u003C\/a\u003E\u003C\/strong\u003E.\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ETheir project centers around two goals: the continued creation of the \u003Cstrong\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/dilac.iac.gatech.edu\/node\/28\u0022\u003EMayor Ivan Allen Digital Archive\u003C\/a\u003E\u003C\/strong\u003E, and the planning and execution of a community archives outreach and digitization day event hosted by the \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/groveparkfoundation.org\u0022\u003E\u003Cstrong\u003EGrove Park Foundation\u003C\/strong\u003E \u003C\/a\u003Ein the Grove Park neighborhood of Atlanta.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe Ivan Allen Digital Archive is a digital humanities project that collects the digitized mayoral records of Mayor Ivan Allen Jr.\u0026nbsp;from 1962 to 1970. The archive collects material from one of the most historic decades in Atlanta\u0026rsquo;s history. It functions as the primary digital repository for the history of Mayor Allen\u0026rsquo;s role in the passage of the Civil Rights Act, the history of race relations in 1960s Atlanta, construction of the Atlanta Stadium, massive changes in desegregation, infrastructure, housing, and transportation overseen by Allen\u0026rsquo;s administration, and much more.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EOriginally digitized by a team of researchers and students with the support of the Digital Integrated Liberal Arts Center (DILAC) funded by the Mellon Foundation, this Omeka-based project continues to be developed as a pedagogical resource for use in the Writing and Communication Program at Georgia Tech.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EMichney recently received \u003Cstrong\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.iac.gatech.edu\/news-events\/stories\/2019\/10\/michney-receives-2019-ghrac-award-excellence-educational-use-historical-records\/628141\u0022\u003Ethe Award for Excellence in the Educational Use of Historical Records\u003C\/a\u003E\u003C\/strong\u003E for the Mayor Ivan Allen Digital Archive\u0026nbsp;at the seventeenth annual Georgia Historical Records Advisory Council (GHRAC) Archives Awards ceremony at the Georgia Archives.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EBoth the Mayor Ivan Allen Digital Archive and Grove Park digitization efforts brought\u0026nbsp;together students from diverse disciplinary backgrounds\u0026nbsp;to develop relationships with local communities, design archives that prioritize the wants and needs of these communities, architect and implement technical solutions that help communities discover and explore their histories, and help with the analysis of the archives and systems as they are assembled.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EIn VIP, teams of undergraduate students \u0026ndash; from various years, disciplines and backgrounds \u0026ndash; work with faculty and graduate students in their areas of scholarship and exploration.
