Bowman’s Documentary "Women of Earth" Accepted at Seven Film Festivals

"Women of Earth," a documentary co-produced by Kirk Bowman, Jon R. Wilcox Term Professor of Global Development and Identity in the Sam Nunn School of International Affairs, was accepted at seven film festivals.

The documentary was accepted at the Buenos Aires International Film Festival 2020, Greenwich International Film Festival 2020, Overcome Film Festival, Festival de Cinema de Trancoso 2019, IFEMA INTERNATIONAL FEMALE FILM FESTIVAL MALMÖ 2020, Eurasia International Monthly Film Festival 2019, and Women at the Center Film Festival 2020.

"Women of Earth" is a project that aims to increase the visibility of the stories of women who play important social roles in their communities. These women are midwives, faith healers, herbalists, shamans, and community leaders.

The film is a part of a variety of films produced by Rise Up & Care, an organization co-founded by Kirk Bowman. Rise Up & Care identifies and builds personal relationships with innovative non-profits in developing communities around the globe, invests in these relationships, and uses films to inspire. Bowman's work models international charity that identifies and supports local leaders invested in transforming the lives of young people, rather than the common model of foreigners implementing their own ideas.

Rise Up & Care has produced other films including 'Bad' & the Birdieman, a documentary about a using badminton to transform the lives of kids in Rio de Janeiro. The documentary was selected for showings at many film festivals including the 41st Atlanta Film Festival in 2017.
