Denning Technology \u0026amp; Management Program in the Scheller College of Business.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EGroce, who is from Savannah, is working toward a minor in Technology \u0026amp; Business.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;It was a wonderful, unexpected surprise to win this award,\u0026rdquo; Groce said. \u0026ldquo;Denning is such a selective program and all of the students are deserving. I\u0026rsquo;m humbled that the faculty chose me, and also that they recognize the dynamite combination of liberal arts, technology, and business that my studies represent.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003ERobert Burgess, administrative director of the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.scheller.gatech.edu\/centers-initiatives\/technology-management-program\/index.html\u0022\u003EDenning Technology \u0026amp; Management Program\u003C\/a\u003E, credited Groce\u0026rsquo;s \u0026ldquo;vibrant energy\u0026rdquo; and \u0026ldquo;passion for problem-solving and lifelong learning.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;Kate doesn\u0026rsquo;t just see the problems in our world; she finds a way to solve them,\u0026rdquo; Burgess said.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EGroce, an Ivan Allen College Dean\u0026rsquo;s Scholar and an ambassador for the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.lmc.gatech.edu\u0022\u003ESchool of Literature, Media, and Communication\u003C\/a\u003E, said she has benefited greatly from studying liberal arts and business together.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;My humanities degree from the Ivan Allen College helps me to put a human perspective on the business, technology, and management concepts I\u0026rsquo;ve learned at Scheller,\u0026rdquo; she said. \u0026ldquo;It\u0026rsquo;s a great pairing which I hope to apply in a human resources, marketing, or community engagement role moving forward in my career.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EGroce said she has learned much from the broad variety of classes she has been able to take, including the senior seminar on science fiction taught by \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.iac.gatech.edu\/people\/faculty\/yaszek\u0022\u003ELisa Yaszek\u003C\/a\u003E, professor in LMC; Academic Professional \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.lmc.gatech.edu\/people\/person\/travis-denton\u0022\u003ETravis Denton\u0026rsquo;s\u003C\/a\u003E poetry class; and the International Leadership Studies class taught by \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.iac.gatech.edu\/people\/faculty\/bankoff\u0022\u003EJoe Bankoff\u003C\/a\u003E, professor of the practice in the \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/inta.gatech.edu\u0022\u003ESam Nunn School of International Affairs\u003C\/a\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EAmong her Scheller classes, Groce said product development with Karthik Ramachandran was among her favorites. In the class, her team won the Most Impactful Award for developing a UV-C cleaning product.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EIn addition to her coursework, Groce has studied abroad in Europe and also has interned in communications, marketing, and community engagement roles while a student at Georgia Tech. This summer, she is working at NCR as a human resources specialist in workforce analytics and human resources reporting.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;Kate is an impressive student and we are fortunate to have her and 130-plus Georgia Tech students joining us this summer in our internship program,\u0026rdquo; said Tony Burdett, University Relations Leader for NCR. \u0026ldquo;We are proud to be part of the midtown community of learning and innovation \u0026ndash; getting to know students like Kate and her peers is a benefit we can\u0026rsquo;t measure.\u0026rdquo;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n","summary":null,"format":"limited_html"}],"field_subtitle":"","field_summary":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EKate Groce, a rising fourth-year student in Literature, Media, and Communication, has been named Class of 2021 Student of the Year by the Steven A.
