This year’s prompt is in response to national attention focused on policing in the United States. In this hypothetical scenario the city council has asked you to propose alterations to city policy and budgetary priorities in response to the “Defund the Police” campaign. The council has set forth the goals of reducing the need for police intervention with preventative measures, rethinking what professionals are most appropriate for some types of contacts with citizens, and increasing public safety.

Posters will be judged on how well they communicate these categories:

Impact. What is the potential impact of the policy being analyzed? What populations would be affected? What are the potential health changes from the policy?

Mechanism. How would the policy bring about better health outcomes? How would the proposed policy deal with an obstacle/barrier/etc.? What are the available levers to enact the desired policy?

Tradeoffs. Are there potential drawbacks to the proposed policy change? Are there populations which would be negatively affected?

Award: $3000 cash to the 1st place team
