Operating in a low-oxygen environment under very high temperatures and pressures,\u0026nbsp;gasification\u0026nbsp;consists of a set of chemical reactions that converts solid carbon containing matter, such as coal or plant-based materials called biomass, municipal waste, or coal, into a synthetic gas, or \u0026ldquo;syngas.\u0026rdquo; The\u0026nbsp;syngas\u0026nbsp;can be burned directly or used to produce chemicals and liquid transportation fuels with fewer harmful impurities.
