  <title><![CDATA[Barke Authors Book Chapter on Public Affairs Education]]></title>
  <body><![CDATA[<p>Richard Barke, associate professor and director of undergraduate studies in the School of Public Policy, contributed a chapter to the <a href="https://www.taylorfrancis.com/books/edit/10.4324/9781003227120/undergraduate-public-affairs-education-madinah-hamidullah?refId=f93af86b-592b-439d-97be-74424257dca2&amp;context=ubx">book</a> <em>Undergraduate Public Affairs Education</em>. His chapter is titled &ldquo;Degree Components and Instructional Design.&rdquo;</p>

<p>In it, Barke highlights the benefits of &ldquo;core competencies&rdquo; in undergraduate public affairs programs. However, he then goes on to argue that these crucial competencies can be difficult to define and will vary widely across institutions. A number of things can contribute to this difference, including the various forms said competencies can take across programs.</p>
