During her time as a doctoral candidate in the School of Literature, Media, and Communication, she and her thesis advisor Celia Pearce received a grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to look at advancing STEM through culturally situated arts-based learning.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EIn our recent\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.lmc.gatech.edu\/news\/item\/653142\/first-book-launch-exhibition-smithsonian-ford-global-fellowship-alumna\u0022\u003Efeature story about Gaskins\u003C\/a\u003E, we shared some of the incredible things she has achieved since graduating, including being named a\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/www.fordfoundation.org\/work\/investing-in-individuals\/the-ford-global-fellowship\/2021-global-fellows\/\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003E2021 Ford Global Fellow\u003C\/a\u003E, releasing her\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/mitpress.mit.edu\/books\/techno-vernacular-creativity-and-innovation\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003Efirst full-length book\u003C\/a\u003E, helping to launch a performance-based artificial intelligence (AI) app, and creating a series of \u0026ldquo;featured futurist\u0026rdquo; portraits on display in the\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/aib.si.edu\/futures\/?utm_source=siedu\u0026amp;utm_medium=referral\u0026amp;utm_campaign=exhibitions\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003EFUTURES\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;exhibition at the Smithsonian Arts and Industries Building in Washington D.C. through July 2022 \u0026mdash; and that\u0026rsquo;s just from the past year.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EGaskins has taught multimedia, visual art, and computer science to high school and college students. She earned a Bachelor\u0026rsquo;s of Fine Arts in Computer Graphics with Honors from Pratt Institute in 1992 and a Master\u0026rsquo;s of Fine Arts in Art and Technology from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1994. Gaskins earned a Ph.D. in Digital Media from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 2014. She is the assistant director of the Lesley \u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/steam.lesley.edu\/\u0022\u003ESTEAM Learning Lab at Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts\u003C\/a\u003E and an advisory board member for the School of Literature, Media, and Communication at Georgia Tech.\u202f\u0026nbsp;\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EGaskins was honored at the\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/iac.gatech.edu\/community\/distinguishedalumniawards\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003EDistinguished Alumni Awards\u003C\/a\u003E\u0026nbsp;ceremony on April 7, 2022. The eighth annual celebration honors exceptional alumni from each of the six academic schools and three Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) units in the Ivan Allen College of Liberal Arts.
