In fact, she and her co-authors from Microsoft Research were just awarded the inaugural Web Science Trust Test of Time Award.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EPresented at the\u0026nbsp;\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/websci22.webscience.org\/\u0022\u003E14th Annual\u0026nbsp;ACM Web Science Conference\u003C\/a\u003E, being held this week\u0026nbsp;in\u0026nbsp;Barcelona, Spain, the award recognizes the lasting impact of the team\u0026rsquo;s 2013 paper\u0026nbsp;\u003Cem\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022https:\/\/dl.acm.org\/doi\/10.1145\/2464464.2464480\u0022\u003ESocial Media as a Measurement Tool of Depression in Populations\u003C\/a\u003E\u003C\/em\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;When we wrote this paper, little did we know what it meant for times to come. We are energized more than ever before to see how this work can push the boundaries of population mental health,\u0026rdquo; De Choudhury, an associate professor in the School of Interactive Computing, said in a tweet on June 26.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe award was announced during the conference\u0026rsquo;s opening session. Dame\u0026nbsp;\u003Cstrong\u003EWendy\u003C\/strong\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u003Cstrong\u003EHall\u003C\/strong\u003E, Web Science Trust executive director, made the announcement saying that it was difficult at first to choose from among all the groundbreaking papers presented over the last decade at the Web Science Conference.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;But the trustees felt that this paper captured an important analysis of nearly 70,000 user posts to develop a novel social media depression index\u0026mdash;helping us to understand more about the society that we shape (and that shapes us) through the Web.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003E\u0026ldquo;The paper has been well-cited, and the issue of mental health certainly retains much relevance today,\u0026rdquo; said Hall.\u003C\/p\u003E\r\n\r\n\u003Cp\u003EThe paper, written by De Choudhury,\u0026nbsp;\u003Cstrong\u003EScott\u003C\/strong\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u003Cstrong\u003ECounts\u003C\/strong\u003E, and\u0026nbsp;\u003Cstrong\u003EEric\u003C\/strong\u003E\u0026nbsp;\u003Cstrong\u003EHorvitz\u003C\/strong\u003E, was first presented at the 2013 ACM Web Science Conference in Paris, France.
