She expects to graduate in December of 2025.\u0026nbsp;\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u0026nbsp;\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\nWe followed up with Washington to get her insight and advice for new Georgia Tech graduate students.\u0026nbsp;\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u0026nbsp;\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u003Cstrong\u003ETake advantage of GT6000.\u003C\/strong\u003E \u201cGT6000 is Georgia Tech\u2019s small-group, peer-led, extended-orientation program for first-semester graduate students,\u201d said Washington. \u201cThis program promotes a positive student experience through social interaction, familiarization with campus resources, and peer mentorship. I am now a GT6000 Group Leader, and I share my experience and encourage my peers to take full advantage of all the available resources to ensure they feel supported.\u201d\u0026nbsp;\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u0026nbsp;\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u003Cstrong\u003EEstablish an open line of communication with professors. \u003C\/strong\u003E\u201cTalk with your instructor or professor,\u201d said Washington. \u201cAll professors have office hours and direct emails and phone numbers in which you can contact them. Additionally, establishing a relationship with professors is encouraged as they can be a professional resource as well as an academia resource.\u201d\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u0026nbsp;\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u003Cstrong\u003EUtilize Georgia Tech\u2019s resources available in Canvas.\u003C\/strong\u003E \u201cGeorgia Tech provides a lot of resources,\u201d said Washington. \u201cMany students use a few resources: Mental Health and Wellbeing Resources, Financial Assistance, and resources to promote a diverse community, such as campus organizations and events. Information to access these resources is available in one place, on Canvas, our learning platform.\u201d\u0026nbsp;\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u0026nbsp;\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u003Cstrong\u003EMake to-do lists.\u003C\/strong\u003E \u201cStay organized, make a to-do list, or find a process that works for you to manage your time,\u201d said Washington. \u201cTime management is essential.\u201d\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u0026nbsp;\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u003Cstrong\u003EUnderstand the expectations. \u003C\/strong\u003E\u201cIn grad school, there is an expectation that the student is self-motivated and self-disciplined, and the student is dedicated to their studies,\u201d said Washington. \u201cThe work will be more challenging and rigorous\u2013you are at Georgia Tech.\u201d\u0026nbsp;\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u0026nbsp;\u003Cbr \/\u003E\r\n\u003Cstrong\u003EGet involved.\u003C\/strong\u003E \u201cHave fun and get involved so you don\u2019t feel like you are on an island,\u201d said Washington. \u201cTake advantage of your student activity benefits and catch a football game or attend a play.
