Truman Center Nuclear Security Workshop

The Truman Center hosted a two-day Nuclear Security Workshop last weekend in efforts to diversify the nuclear policy field. The workshop brought together undergraduate students from the Metro Atlanta region to engage with experts in nuclear security. Led by Truman’s Janne E. Nolan Nuclear Security Fellow, Lily Wojtowicz, the workshop included interactive discussions and presentations on topics ranging from the intersectionality of Nuclear Weapons to career paths in Nuclear Policy and Advocacy and more.

The workshop featured sessions led by various experts in the field:

Mari Faines, Global Zero’s Partner for Mobilization

Navindra Gunawardena, The National Counterproliferation and Biosecurity Center’s Strategy Management Office

Dr. Jana Wattenberg, UKRI postdoctoral fellow at Aberystwyth University

Dr. Dan Altman, Assistant Professor of Political Science at Georgia State University

Jasmine Owens, Physicians for Social Responsibility’s Associate Director for the Nuclear Weapons Abolition Program

The Truman Center is dedicated to creating a more diverse and inclusive constituency for reducing nuclear risks across the United States. By partnering with organizations nationwide, they aim to represent the concerns and priorities of all Americans and diversify US nuclear policymaking. Their efforts are focused on underrepresented communities in the nuclear policy field, including women, people of color, and members of the LGBTQ+ community. The Truman Center is accomplishing these goals through convenings that engage stakeholders in discussions on how nuclear security intersects with critical issues such as climate change, environmental justice, public health, and equality.

<!-- Disquisition: it's funny how I write these TODOs and then never
