CMR has evolved from breath-hold, ECG gated 2D cardiac cine imaging, to free-breathing self-gated 3D cardiac imaging with additional cardiac and respiratory dimensions for comprehensive analysis (5D free-running CMR). As the dimensionality grows and the acquisition is made faster by optimized acquisition trajectories, but the subsequent image reconstruction, a process defined as recovering the underlying image from the acquired k-space data is becoming more challenging.
