{"70902":{"#nid":"70902","#data":{"type":"news","title":"New Report Shows Digital Media Can Assist Disabled Adults with Employment","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EA new report by the Georgia Institute of Technology\u0027s \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.cacp.gatech.edu\/powerofdigitalinclusion.php\u0022\u003ECenter for Advanced Communications Policy (CACP)\u003C\/a\u003E shows that a networked economy and new digital media\ntechnology have transformed the employment landscape for adults with\ndisabilities, especially for those under the age of 30. \u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EReleased by the National Council on Disability (NCD),\nthe report concludes that the transition to a new networked economy has the\npotential to provide more employment opportunities for people with disabilities. \u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EPrevious research into the employment challenges\nfaced by people with disabilities has focused on the scarcity of job\nopportunities and the perceived competitive disadvantages that they face. The\nnew report, \u201cThe Power of Digital Inclusion: Technology\u2019s Impact on Employment\nand Opportunities for People with Disabilities,\u201d focuses on the social capital\nand networking needed to match job opportunities with job seekers. \u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ECACP Senior\nResearch Scientist James White wrote the report and oversaw a research team\nthat included Paul Baker, Robert Todd, Nathan Moon, Brad Fain, Jessica Pater\nand Carola Conces. CACP is housed in the School of Public Policy at Georgia\nTech\u2019s Ivan Allen College.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EThe report looked at the disruptive possibilities of a\nset of key digital technologies on employment: wireless communication\nplatforms; social networks; immersive digital environments, including virtual\nworlds and tiered digital interactions such as electronic games; open\npublishing; and open source processes. \u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EMarking the launch of the report, the NCD hosted a\nvirtual job fair October 4 to promote employment opportunities for people with\ndisabilities, inviting government, non-government organizations and private-sector\nemployers to send in current employment opportunities.
