The major focus of the studio was an approach to redevelopment of Fort McPherson from the perspective of the neighboring communities and how future development can complement surrounding community characteristics rather than considering redevelopment of the base in isolation, as most plans have. More about this issue is available in Professor Dobbins\u0027 \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.ajc.com\/opinion\/mcpherson-plan-falls-short-1182116.html\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003Eop-ed in the AJC\u003C\/a\u003E.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003ECongratulations to \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.planning.gatech.edu\/people\/dan-immergluck\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003EDr. Dan Immergluck\u003C\/a\u003E who was \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.coa.gatech.edu\/news\/dan-immergluck-promoted-full-professor-3\u0022 target=\u0022_self\u0022\u003Epromoted to full professor\u003C\/a\u003E.\u0026nbsp; This well-earned decision reflects a distinguished record of teaching, scholarship and service that includes six years at Georgia Tech, three books, 27 refereed journal articles and the inaugural Student Planning Association\u0027s Quality Teaching Award.\u0026nbsp; Attend his \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.coa.gatech.edu\/event\/school-city-and-regional-planning-professorial-lecture-dan-immergluck\u0022 target=\u0022_self\u0022\u003Eprofessorial lecture\u003C\/a\u003E where he discusses the question \u201cWhat\u2019s next? Prognosis and Prospects for Housing and Urban Form after the Crisis.\u201d \u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.planning.gatech.edu\/people\/subhro-guhathakurta\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003EDr. Subhrajit Guhathakurta\u003C\/a\u003E was \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.planning.gatech.edu\/news\/subhrajit-guhathakurta-appointed-director-georgia-tech-center-geographic-information-systems\u0022 target=\u0022_self\u0022\u003Eappointed to the faculty\u003C\/a\u003E as Professor and Director of the Center for Geographic Information Systems. Beginning in January, 2012 he will serve as the editor for the Journal of Planning and Education and Research. Also, read an interview featured in the Student Planning Association Newsletter.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.planning.gatech.edu\/people\/nancey-green-leigh-faicp\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003EDr. Nancey Green Leigh\u003C\/a\u003E was recently featured in an \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/hg.gatech.edu\/sites\/default\/files\/ajc_nancey_green_leigh_interview.pdf\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003E\u201cup close\u201d interview with the AJC\u003C\/a\u003E discussing the regional economy and the need for education and a diversified economy.\u0026nbsp; Dr. Leigh leads the School of City and Regional Planning\u2019s Doctoral Program and has authored three books and over 50 academic articles.\u003C\/p\u003E\u003Cp\u003E\u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.planning.gatech.edu\/people\/brian-stone-jr\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003EDr. Brian Stone\u003C\/a\u003E was recently nominated for an \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.eni.com\/en_IT\/innovation-technology\/eni-award\/eni-award.shtml\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003EENI award\u003C\/a\u003E. This is a prestigious international environmental protection prize awarded by the Italian energy company, ENI. This nomination recognizes Professor Stone\u2019s research on the pace of climate change in cities. Specifically, he discovered that most large cities are warming at more than twice the rate of the planet as a whole. He also recently received an \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/www.nih.gov\/\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003ENIH\u003C\/a\u003E grant with Civil and Environmental Engineering Professor, Ted Russell, working on \u003Ca href=\u0022http:\/\/urbanclimate.gatech.edu\u0022 target=\u0022_blank\u0022\u003Eheat island issues\u003C\/a\u003E and involving $884,000 in
