Hosted by the Atlanta Pediatric Device Consortium (APDC), the event will give out three to five awards ranging from $25,000 to $50,000 depending on the device and its stage of development. Devices should be targeted to the pediatric population and will be divided into four age groups, ranging from birth to age 21.

Applicants should email two-page proposals for their devices by Tuesday, Nov. 1, at 3 p.m. to Maribel Baker in the Department of Biomedical Engineering. Submissions are welcome from all faculty, entrepreneurs, clinicians, fellows, residents and students from any of the APDC institutions (consisting of Georgia Tech, Emory University, Saint Joseph Translation Research Institute and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta).

Those interested in attending but not submitting entries may RSVP to the event online. The competition is free to attend, includes a complimentary breakfast and will take place at the Petit Institute of Bioengineering and Biosciences (IBB) Building.

APDC was launched this month with a two-year, $1.8 million grant from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to encourage the development of medical devices tailored to the needs of children, with the plan of taking the devices from conception to commercialization.
