{"73077":{"#nid":"73077","#data":{"type":"news","title":"Pediatric Device Competition","body":[{"value":"\u003Cp\u003EAtlanta\nPediatric Device Consortium (APDC) hosted a Pediatric Device Workshop and\nInnovation Competition on November 12 where many innovators, entrepreneurs,\nscientists, and spectators gathered at Georgia Tech to watch the next\ninnovative pediatric medical device emerge.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EThere\nwere 15 projects presented at the event, ranging from cranial deformation\nrestructuring, heart valves, medicine administering kazoo to a handy eye-chart.\nThe review committee was composed of entrepreneurs, clinicians, scientists,\nindustry representatives who selected the eight projects that will be passed to\nround two. The selected projects will be submitting a 5 page proposal and\nhaving a one-on-one interview with the review committee. The event ended\nsuccessfully with over 70 in attendance and many interesting, innovative\nproposals introduced.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EThe\npurpose of the Pediatric Device Competition is to target project ideas that can\nbenefit from the product development pathway of the APDC to design, to develop,\nand to commercialize new devices for the pediatric population in hopes of\nenhancing the lives of children through the development of novel pediatric\nmedical devices, which are both safe and effective\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EAwards\nfrom $25,000 to $50,000 will be made depending on the complexity of the device\nand its development stage. \u0026nbsp;APDC expects\nto make 3 to 5 project awards in 2012.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EAPDC\nwas launched this September with a two-year, $1.8 million grant from the Food\nand Drug Administration (FDA) to encourage the development of medical devices\ntailored to the needs of children, with the plan of taking the devices from\nconception to commercialization.\u003C\/p\u003E\n\n\u003Cp\u003EThe\nPediatric Device Competition will provide a competitive opportunity for the\nAtlanta scientific and business community to develop a pediatric medical device\nconcept benefitting from the expertise and infrastructure of the APDC.
