During the course of mechanistic investigation with polymers that display the essential binding motif of fertilin\u00ce\u00b2 in multivalent fashion to probe sperm-egg interactions in fertilization, we sought polymers with more precise regio-and stereochemical control for distance measurements and optimal presentation of functionality. New cyclobutene monomers for polymerization have been developed to circumvent these problems.
